Pool FAQs

Thinking about a pool? Already have one? Our pool FAQs tackle the most common questions about buying, installing, and maintaining your pool so you can dive in with confidence.

General Pool FAQs

What makes Bermuda Pools different from other pool companies?

Bermuda Pools are the only fibreglass swimming pools designed and manufactured in New Zealand’s South Island. We focus on quality, sustainability, and supporting local manufacturing while delivering pools nationwide. Our advanced insulated design provides superior strength and energy efficiency compared to traditional pools.

Do you deliver pools throughout New Zealand?

Yes, we deliver our locally made South Island fibreglass pools anywhere in New Zealand. Despite being manufactured in the South Island, we service customers across the entire country.

What types of pools do you offer?

We specialise in in-ground fibreglass swimming pools with advanced insulation technology. We also offer (maintenance free) fibreglass lining of new concrete pools and pool refurbishment services to transform aging concrete pools with modern designs and long-lasting performance.

I’m building a concrete pool, can you help..?

Yes we can. Contact us about having a Bermuda Pool Lining applied to your new concrete pool. This will provide you with a coloured ‘flowcoat’ surface with the colour impregnated into the pool lining. The finished result will be smooth to touch, without the requirement to re-paint or re-plaster every 1 to 3 years.

What is a wet pit and dry pit?

Who makes fibreglass pools in the South Island?

We do!
Bermuda is the only manufacturer or fibreglass pools in the South Island. Because we live here and have been making these pools for over 45 years, we understand the local conditions and requirements.

Pool Technology & Design FAQs

What is your insulated fibreglass technology?

Our pools feature New Zealand engineered insulation and strength through advanced layering, including chemical-resistant surfaces, an insulating foam core, and reinforced fibreglass construction. This design provides superior strength, durability and energy efficiency.

How long do Bermuda Pools last?

Our fibreglass pools are built to stand the test of time with minimal maintenance required. The advanced layering and reinforced construction ensure lasting performance for decades.

Are your pools environmentally friendly?

Yes, as a New Zealand-made product, we reduce transportation emissions compared to imported pools. Our insulated design also improves energy efficiency, reducing heating costs and environmental impact.

Are all fibreglass pools created equal?

No! Bermuda pools are build in Christchurch and all come with a 40mm insulated foam shell to help with warmth retention and strength.

Pool Installation & Process FAQs

How long does pool installation take?

Installation timeframes vary depending on site conditions, pool size, and local council requirements. We’ll provide a detailed timeline during your consultation based on your specific project.

What’s involved in the pool installation process?

The process typically includes site assessment, council consent applications, excavation, pool placement, plumbing and electrical connections, backfilling, and final finishing. We’ll guide you through each step. Learn more about our process here.

Do I need council consent for a new pool?

Yes, most pool installations require building consent from your local council. We can assist with the consent process and ensure all work meets New Zealand building standards and pool safety requirements.

What site preparation is required?

Site requirements vary depending on your property’s terrain, access, and soil conditions. Our assessment team will visit your site to evaluate specific preparation needs and discuss any potential challenges.

Can I buy a pool shell and install it myself?

Yes, you sure can..!
Contact us and enquire about purchasing a pool as a Kit-Set and you can install the pool yourself.

Can you install a pool in our backyard with no vehicle access?

Sure can. We recently used a helicopter to drop a pool onto a remote site on Banks Peninsula.

I live on a hill, can I get a pool?

Absolutely…!
We have delivered and installed our fibreglass swimming pools into all sorts of difficult sites.
Call us to talk about your specific site.

Pool Refurbishment FAQs

Can you renovate my existing concrete pool?

Yes, we specialise in transforming aging concrete pools with modern fibreglass designs. This eliminates the need for future resurfacing and painting while providing long-term performance.

How does pool refurbishment work?

Our assessment team meets you onsite to discuss your design vision and evaluate your existing pool. We then provide a competitive, tailored solution that revitalises your pool for years to come.

Is refurbishment more cost-effective than building a new pool?

Pool refurbishment is often more economical than complete replacement, especially when dealing with structural concrete pools in good condition. We’ll assess your situation and provide honest recommendations.

Pool Maintenance & Care FAQs

How much maintenance do fibreglass pools require?

Fibreglass pools require significantly less maintenance than concrete pools. The smooth, non-porous surface resists algae growth and requires fewer chemicals, making ongoing care easier and more affordable. Learn more about fireglass vs concrete pools.

What ongoing costs should I expect?

Ongoing costs include water heating, filtration system operation, chemical treatments, and periodic equipment servicing. Our insulated design helps reduce heating costs compared to traditional pools.

Do you provide maintenance services?

Please contact us to discuss maintenance service options in your area. We can also recommend trusted local pool maintenance professionals.

Salt pool vs chlorine pool

The difference between a saltwater pool and a chlorine pool comes down to how the chlorine is introduced into the water, as both systems ultimately rely on chlorine to sanitise the pool. Click here to read a more thorough breakdown.
