Plunge Pool Buyers Guide

Thinking of getting a plunge pool for your home but don’t know where to start?

We’ve got you covered with this plunge pool buyers guide.

An insulated in-ground fibreglass plunge pool

Bermuda Pools have been your go-to for Kiwi-made, high-quality, insulated fibreglass swimming pools for over 40 years, and we now also offers plunge pools. We can help guide you through everything to know about these versatile pools that combine the benefits of a pool, with the flexibility to be kept cold or hot (or somewhere in between).

Why choose a Plunge Pool?

A plunge pool offers solutions for both fitness and leisure. When swim jets are added, they create a current allowing you to enjoy light swimming and hydrotherapy exercises in the comfort of your own space. Or use them as fun water-play for the kids!

While some traditional plunge pools can reach considerable depths, Our Bermuda Plunge pools have a reasonable depth of 1.5m, ideal for plunging, relaxing, and easy for maintenance.

Plunge pools offer a year-round alternative to traditional swimming pools. You may choose to keep the pool cool in summer and cold-plunge, or heat the pool to get year round use thanks to the Bermuda Insulating foam which keeps heating costs to a minimum. You can even heat the pool up to 38 degress and use it as a spa.

Investing in a plunge pool is a significant choice that requires thoughtful planning. At Bermuda Pools, we’re here to help you every step of the way, making sure you pick a swimming pool or plunge pool that suits your needs, budget, and style preferences.

Average Sizes: How Big Are Plunge Pools?

The first step in buying a pool is to decide on a size. Plunge pools are generally more compact than swimming pools and usually range from 2m to 6m long, and 2m to 4m wide.

Think about the space you have available and how much of it you want to allocate to your pool. A perfect plunge pool should seamlessly fit into your outdoor area, enhancing its charm without making the space look too busy or affecting its functionality.

Bermuda Insulated Fibreglass Plunge Pools come in two sizes:

LengthWidthDepth
Plunge 44.0m2.4m1.5m
Plunge 66.1m3.06m1.1m to 1.4m

If you are looking for a pool larger than this, you may need to consider installing an insulated fibreglass swimming pool. We have these available in 8m, 10m and 12.5m lengths (the latter being the largest moulded swimming pool in New Zealand).

Plunge Pools vs Regular Pools: What’s The Difference?

Plunge pools are physically smaller in size than a traditional swimming pool. They typically feature a compact design that makes them suitable for smaller outdoor spaces or boutique accommodation providers. Here are the main differences in detail:

  • Size and Space: Plunge pools are smaller and perfect for relaxing and cooling off. If you have limited space or no need for a large swimming pool, a plunge pool could be just right.
  • Depth and Purpose: Plunge pools are shallower and great for lounging and creating a peaceful oasis. Regular swimming pools have a sloped bottom (creating a deep and shallow end) and are designed for swimming laps and water play. It depends on what you prefer and how you’ll use it.
  • Features and Accessories: All pools can be customised. For example, our Bermuda plunge pools all have the option of adding powerful swim jets which are great for resistance training. Regular pools might include fun features like diving boards for family entertainment.
  • Maintenance and Cost: Being smaller, Plunge pools are typically easier to clean and maintain. Installing a plunge pool is usually more affordable than a regular swimming pool.

Remember, all Bermuda Pools are designed and manufactured in Christchurch for South Island conditions. Our insulated fibreglass pool shells are warm, efficient, and built to last.
